This is a selection of medical and anatomical illustrations from a book that we recently found at a flea market in Montpellier. The publication entitled "Manuel de l'infirmière hospitalière de Croix-Rouge Française" was published in 1920 by the French Red Cross and the Union of the Women of France.

In the 19th century there were several organisations operating in France that provided voluntary medical assistance and aid to both military and civilians alike. A merge of organisations eventually led to the French Red Cross being formed. The International Federation of Red Cross was founded in 1919 in Paris in the aftermath of World War I. This book was printed one year later by Masson et Cie.
